BAY VILLAGE, Ohio – Between March 16 and March 21, 2026, the Bay Village Police Department (BVPD) handled a surge of critical incidents, including two significant arrests for protection order violations and multiple reports of fraudulent activity. The week was also marked by community-wide reports of a large explosion on St. Patrick’s Day, later identified as a meteorite, and an electrical fire at a local business.
Critical Domestic Violence Arrests in Bay Village
The most serious incidents of the week involved two separate arrests for violations of protection orders. On March 18, at approximately 1:43 am, officers responded to a silent panic alarm where they discovered a physical altercation in progress. After a male suspect refused to exit, mutual aid was requested to clear the residence. A 41-year-old North Royalton resident was eventually located upstairs and arrested on charges of assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, and violation of a temporary protection order (TPO). In a separate incident on Elmwood, another male was detained and arrested for violating an active protection warrant; he now faces charges through the Rocky River Municipal Court and Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
Bay Village Police Department Investigates Thefts and Scams
Financial crimes and suspicious activity were a major focus for BVPD this week. On March 16, a resident on Tanglewood Lane reported a high-value theft after an ordered Louis Vuitton item was missing from a delivered package, despite security footage showing no signs of external tampering. That same day, a resident on Lincolnshire Drive narrowly avoided a $15,000 loss after receiving a fraudulent call from an individual posing as an Apple employee. Officers confirmed the scam and provided the resident with protective measures to prevent future victimization.
Meteorite Explosion and Community Safety Responses
On the morning of March 17, BVPD dispatch received numerous calls regarding a “large explosion” felt across the city. The disturbance was later attributed to the “St. Paddy’s Day meteorite” passing over Northeast Ohio. Other safety responses included a March 20 dispatch to Pizza Hut for a fire alarm, where the Bay Village Fire Department (BVFD) discovered a melted circuit board in a dishwasher. Additionally, on March 21, a 31-year-old Bay Village resident was arrested for OVI near Lake and Saddler Road after testing with a BAC of 0.197%, more than double the legal limit.
Neighborhood Disputes and Property Concerns
Officers also mediated several local grievances, including a dispute on West Oakland Road regarding contractor sawdust settling on a neighbor’s vehicle and an ongoing issue with loose dogs on Plymouth Road. On East Oakland Road, police investigated property damage caused by a BB gun, identifying a target in a neighboring yard. While contact was not initially made with the neighbor, the investigation remains active to ensure neighborhood safety and compliance with local ordinances.
