Market Garden Brewery will open its new Irishtown Bend Taproom on April 12 at their production facility on West 24th Street next to the West Side Market. This latest addition marks the eighth business in Market Garden’s portfolio, which includes their flagship brewpub, Nano Brew Cleveland, and several other establishments.
Location Details
The taproom, located at 1849 W. 24th St., features around 60 indoor seats plus a side patio with picnic tables and outdoor games that can accommodate 90 more guests. While the 35,000-square-foot production facility has been operating since 2016, it was previously only open for scheduled tours, tastings, and private events.
Design Elements
The interior was remodeled using materials salvaged from other demolished properties in Cleveland, including 200-year-old lumber from a historic church torn down on Euclid Avenue 15 years ago during Cleveland Clinic expansion. Co-owner Sam McNulty praised business partner Mark Priemer as “a whiz of construction and value-engineering in ways that do not affect the quality of the experience.”
Name Origin
The name “Irishtown Bend Taproom” connects to the brewery’s proximity to the future Irishtown Bend Park. “Almost nobody thinks of Ohio City as a waterfront neighborhood, even folks who live or work or play here,” McNulty explained. “But Irishtown Bend Park is actually contiguous with our production brewery — the back of it touches the future park.”
Business Growth
Despite challenges in the craft beer industry, McNulty emphasized that Market Garden is launching this new venue during a period of strength. The business grew last year and expects more growth in 2025. Regarding their focus on Ohio City, McNulty stated, “Mark and I believe strongly in Ohio City’s future… We are both convinced that the best is yet to come in Ohio City.”
Historical Connection
The Irishtown Bend name has historical significance as it refers to a shanty-town area on the West Bank of the Cuyahoga River in Ohio City from the early 1800s. The brewery previously released an Irishtown Bend Red Ale in 2018, with $1 from each glass supporting development of the greenspace.
