Painesville residents have more dining options to choose from as two popular fast-food chains recently opened locations in the area. Jimmy John’s and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen have both established new restaurants, adding to the growing food scene in Painesville City and Township.
Jimmy John’s has moved into the 201 Richmond St. site in Painesville City, taking over the space previously occupied by Georgio’s Pizza. The sandwich chain, known for its “freaky fast” delivery service, is now offering in-store ordering, pickup, curbside service, and delivery throughout the week. The new location provides residents with convenient access to the chain’s popular sub sandwiches.
Meanwhile, Popeyes has opened the doors at its recently constructed building at 2168 Mentor Ave. in Painesville Township. The Louisiana-style fast-food restaurant specializes in fried chicken and regional southern sides. The opening marks the culmination of a development project that has been in the works since 2023.
Drivers in Painesville Township may have already noticed the distinctive Popeyes branding on the new building along Mentor Avenue. Construction on the site began after the company received approval from the township’s Zoning Commission in July 2023.
The Popeyes site plan was presented by Michael Couch, an architect with Arkinetics Architects and Urbanists in Cleveland, who told the commission that the restaurant would be built “ground up” and “include site improvements as well as landscaping and water maintenance.” During planning, township officials worked with developers to ensure that landscaping wouldn’t interfere with visibility for motorists.
The addition of these two restaurant chains represents positive economic development for the area. As noted in a previous editorial assessment of new restaurant development in Painesville Township, “the arrival of new eateries… will help bolster the local economy. More jobs will be created and the businesses will add to the region’s tax base.”
These openings are part of a broader trend of restaurant development in the Painesville area. The township has seen several other food service businesses either open recently or announce plans to do so, including Charleys Cheesesteaks and an ice cream establishment.
For residents, the new restaurants mean more convenient dining options without having to travel to neighboring communities. Both establishments are now open and serving customers.
