The vibrant hub of food, retail and community known as Market 42 is now in its first week of operations after officially opening its doors on May 2nd. The 26,000-square-foot marketplace features 25 vendors ranging from restaurants and dessert spots to specialty retail shops, offering a new destination for residents and visitors alike.
The project is the vision of owner Nick Kyriazis, who drew inspiration from the lively markets of his native Greece. “It’s a dream coming true. It’s exactly what we envisioned and the doors are open,” said Kyriazis.
The grand opening took place on Friday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony held with city and state officials at 4:30 p.m. From hibachi to crepes, to sandwiches, to Lakewood’s beloved McGinty’s bar, to fresh roasted coffee and a wine bar, the new marketplace is all local, all small business owners, all under one roof.
“We want people to come to Brunswick. We want them to experience all the growth we’re having,” said Grant Aungst, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Brunswick. “It’s not a matter of, ‘Oh, we’re going to go down to South End.’ It’s going to go, ‘Oh, you go past Market 42.’ Market 42 is going to be the anchor for the south end of town now,” Aungst added.
Pete Cooper, whose Goldberry Roasting Company started with humble beginnings at home, now marks Market 42 as their third coffee shop location. “Started in my Dad’s basement in 2008. He was just roasting coffee for himself in his basement for a long time and in 2008 we opened our first shop,” Cooper said.
Terry Mavrakis and Stefanos Stefanopoulos, co-owners of artisan sandwich shop Local West in the Detroit Shoreway area, are among the vendors excited to showcase their passion. “This is an opportunity for growth. We’re all Ohio beef, cheeses, Amish Gerber chicken, Daisy Field bacon. It’s the real deal,” Mavrakis said.
Market 42 is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., though each vendor has its own set of hours. The facility includes seating indoors for 150 around a main bar (110 seats) and a wine bar (40 seats). In warmer months, additional seating will be available for about 40 on an outdoor, covered patio in front of the building.
The space can also host events for about 120 people, with weddings, a bridal shower, a birthday party and a corporate event already planned. Additionally, the nine-acre site includes 18 new townhomes and a park with walking and biking trails, which connect the residential area with the commercial area.
According to their official website, there are multiple job openings still available at Market 42. For the full list of vendors and ways to apply, interested individuals can visit their website. https://themarket42.com/
