In case you haven’t heard, the Burntwood Tavern has permanently closed two of its Northeast Ohio locations – the original restaurant in Chagrin Falls and its Lyndhurst establishment. While residents of these communities are aware of the closures, many people from surrounding areas are still expressing surprise upon learning the news.
“The word bittersweet comes to mind,” said Monven Group founder Bret Adams about the closures. “We were truly blessed to be in that location and in the community for the past 15 years. We raised five children there, and this was an important journey for us.”
The Chagrin Falls restaurant officially closed on March 7 after 15 years of operation, while the Lyndhurst location closed on March 2 after serving the community for 10 years. According to officials, both closures coincided with the expiration of building leases and the sale of the properties.
To commemorate its history in the community, Burntwood Tavern hosted a farewell event at the Chagrin Falls location on its final day featuring live music from Dolinar, an all-day happy hour, and a celebration of the restaurant’s history in the community.
Adams reflected on the Chagrin Falls restaurant’s significance, noting it had been “the site for gatherings following the losses of local residents” and the location of “many celebrations of both joy and mourning” over the years.
The closures are part of a larger strategy by the Monven Group, which owns the Burntwood Tavern chain. The company had previously closed its Crocker Park location as well.
The restaurant group is now focusing on its “Rekindle Project,” a revitalization effort aimed at enhancing the guest experience across its remaining 10 locations. The project began at the North Olmsted location in February, followed by Solon and Cuyahoga Falls.
While closing these two restaurants, the Monven Group is also planning a new concept for the former Sushi Junki space on West Street in Chagrin Falls. The space will feature a fruit and vegetable garden that will supply produce to the company’s other restaurants in the area, including M Italian and M Bevy.
“Our goal is to continue evolving while staying true to the essence of what makes Burntwood Tavern special,” Adams said. “We are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead.”
Local patrons can still visit other Burntwood Tavern locations throughout Northeast Ohio, including those in Solon, Rocky River, North Olmsted, and Cuyahoga Falls.
