The Twinsburg Board of Education addressed several significant personnel and policy matters during their June 5 meeting at Twinsburg High School, including approving a settlement agreement with an assistant principal and reviewing strategic planning initiatives.
The five-member board, led by President Rhonda Crawford and Vice President Tina Davis, along with members Beth Egan, Maria Hamilton and Leah Travis, considered multiple action items affecting district operations.
Settlement Agreement Approved
Board members approved a settlement agreement with Scott Astey regarding his return to his position as Assistant Principal at Wilcox Primary School. The agreement outlines specific terms and conditions for Astey’s reinstatement, though details of the settlement were not disclosed in the public meeting materials.
Personnel Changes
The board approved several staffing recommendations, including administrative contract renewals and new hires. Jillian Carter received a three-year contract renewal as Assistant Principal at Twinsburg High School, effective through July 2029, with compensation aligned to the administrative salary schedule.
Among new certificated staff approvals, several teachers received one-year limited contracts to fill positions left by retiring or transferring staff members. These include replacements at Wilcox Primary, R.B. Chamberlin Middle School, and other district buildings.
The board also approved multiple resignations, including MoNique Kirkland, a teacher at Wilcox with three years of district service, and Paul Zeller, Head Custodian at Wilcox, who is retiring after four years with the district.
Strategic Planning Focus
Administrative reports included strategic plan updates for the fourth quarter of the 2024-2025 school year and an overview of the 2025-2030 strategic plan. Dr. Lisa Riegel from Educational Partnerships Institute, LLC presented information about the district’s strategic planning process.
Dr. Riegel brings extensive educational experience, having worked with schools on student performance improvement through parent partnerships, communication enhancement, and professional development initiatives. Her work focuses on helping organizations transition from compliance-based approaches to collaborative reform efforts.
Financial and Transportation Matters
The board approved several financial items, including monthly expenditures for April 2025 and authorization for the treasurer to make necessary fiscal year-end adjustments. They also determined transportation impracticality for one student attending St. Joan of Arc School, authorizing payment of $583.86 per student for the arrangement.
Interagency Agreement
Members approved the Summit County Interagency Agreement for the 2025-2026 school year, a collaborative framework among multiple agencies serving infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with disabilities. The agreement involves cooperation between local education agencies, Head Start programs, and Help Me Grow Early Intervention services.
Labor Agreements
The board approved memorandums of understanding with the Twinsburg Education Association regarding supplemental contracts for announcers and Blue Diamonds performers for upcoming school years.
Student Activities
Board members also approved an overnight trip for Twinsburg High School track and field teams to attend the OHSAA State Championships at Ohio State University, with costs covered by the athletic department and booster organization support.
The meeting included time for public comment, though specific citizen concerns were not detailed in meeting materials. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction Room at Twinsburg High School.
