Seven teenagers were injured in a shooting that occurred during reports of drag racing in Cleveland’s Lee-Harvard neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Cleveland Police received reports of drag racing near Harvard Avenue and Lee Road around 12:03 a.m. when gunfire erupted at the scene. The victims included two 18-year-old men, three 18-year-old women, one 19-year-old man and one 19-year-old woman.
Three victims were transported in private vehicles while four others were taken by Cleveland EMS. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
Shaker Heights Police stopped a vehicle with three occupants that investigators confirmed were present at the shooting scene. Police arrested the 21-year-old driver for improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and recovered three guns from that vehicle.
A second car used to transport victims to the hospital was also towed for investigation, with officers recovering two additional firearms.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and processing evidence as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police.
