DUI Driver’s Wrong Turn at Police Station
A Cleveland man was arrested for operating under the influence June 11 after driving into a restricted area behind the Solon Police Station. Wesley Davis, 50, drove past multiple “road closed” and “do not enter” signs before stopping near the jail entrance.
Davis told officers he was delivering food to an address on Solon Road but had clearly taken a wrong turn. He displayed signs of intoxication including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He registered a .068% blood alcohol content and was charged with OVI, failure to obey traffic control devices and open container violations.
Facebook ‘Friend’ Costs Resident $1 Million
Police are investigating a sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud that cost a local resident more than $1 million after he was targeted through social media.
The 63-year-old Solon man reported June 9 that he had been befriended through Facebook in February by someone who gradually convinced him to invest in cryptocurrency. The scammer directed the victim to invest through what appears to be a fraudulent company called “Coinget.”
The victim invested over one million dollars in the scheme before realizing he had been defrauded. The investigation is ongoing.
Welfare Check Leads to Drug Arrest
A routine welfare check resulted in drug charges for a Solon woman June 14. Police were called to check on a woman who appeared to be under the influence in a driveway on the 6500 block of Glenallen.
When officers arrived at the residence, they observed suspected drug pipes and syringes in the garage. During questioning, one woman was seen moving something from her front pocket to the back of her pants.
Officers seized two small bags containing powder that field tested positive for fentanyl, along with pipes and syringes. Jennifer Bialec, 38, was arrested and charged with drug possession and drug paraphernalia charges.
Other Incidents
Police are investigating a theft at Circle K on Aurora Road where a manager suspects an employee stole over $3,000 in cash during incidents at the end of May.
An officer attempted to stop a motorcycle without visible registration June 15 but the rider fled the scene. The officer did not pursue and is working with Circle K to identify the driver.
A package theft was reported on Aurora Road where a 76-year-old man’s paper shredder delivery was stolen from his home.
