Domestic Violence and Assault
July 22 – Family Disturbance Leads to Multiple Charges Matthew Joseph Wloszek was arrested on domestic violence and assault charges following a violent altercation with family members on Apache Run. The incident began when family members confronted the heavily intoxicated suspect about spending family money without permission after his girlfriend delivered a disorderly conduct citation from Northfield Village Police. When his mother confronted him about the money, the suspect shouted profanities and became aggressive. His sister attempted to intervene to protect their mother, who has serious health issues. The suspect pushed his sister against the front door and into the kitchen counter, where she struck a coffee maker and water jug. He grabbed and twisted her arm, causing her to believe it was broken. The suspect also punched his brother-in-law in the head with a closed fist, leaving visible red marks and scratches. When his father returned home, the suspect struck him on the head with an open hand. All three victims required medical treatment at Cleveland Clinic, where the sister received CT scans and X-rays for arm swelling. Wloszek was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of assault.
July 20 – Domestic Dispute Results in Assault Report A domestic dispute on Atterbury Drive resulted in an assault report after a man was punched in the mouth by his ex-girlfriend during an argument while he was visiting his children. The victim declined to press charges but his ex-wife requested the woman be trespassed from the property. Police attempted to contact the woman but were unable to reach her after leaving a voicemail.
July 16 – Pepper Spray Attack on Shepard Road Paul Joseph Gates was arrested for assault and criminal damaging after pepper spraying three people and damaging property during a confrontation. The incident occurred when his ex-girlfriend arrived with two friends to return vehicle keys and retrieve her cell phone. Gates immediately began striking the driver with closed fists as the vehicle pulled into the driveway. When his ex-girlfriend tried to help, her keys containing pepper spray were knocked from her hand. Gates obtained the pepper spray and sprayed all three occupants of the vehicle. During the struggle, he grabbed the woman’s Nissan key from the ignition and turned it, damaging the key fob so the vehicle would not start. He also threw her phone on the floorboard, cracking the screen. Video footage from one of the victims clearly showed the assault. All three victims required medical attention from EMS and recovered from their injuries. The damaged vehicle required a $225 tow to Barberton. Gates was charged with three counts of assault and two counts of criminal damaging.
July 10 – Aggravated Menacing Report Documented A Cleveland man reported being threatened during an encounter at a Park Ledge Drive residence. The victim reported that during a consensual encounter, the suspect made threatening statements including death threats and prevented him from leaving. The victim chose not to press charges but requested the incident be documented for his safety.
Emergency Response and Property Issues
July 14 – Dog Bite at Local Kennel A Kentucky man reported being bitten by a Cane Corso at a kennel on East Highland Road during a July 8 incident. The victim sought medical treatment at University Hospital and was prescribed antibiotics. Police are investigating and attempting to contact the dog’s owner.
July 6 – Tree Branch Injures Woman Officers assisted Macedonia Fire Department after a large tree branch fell on a woman in her backyard on Driftwood Lane. The victim was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained when the heavy limb struck her while she was in her yard. Emergency responders worked to safely remove the branch and provide medical care before transport.
July 5 – Property Damage from Tree Work A resident reported property damage after tree removal work at a neighboring property caused debris to fall onto his generator. The case was referred to the Macedonia Building Department for code violations.
July 4 – Domestic Dispute Assistance Macedonia officers assisted Twinsburg Police with a verbal domestic dispute involving a mother and son that occurred while they were traveling through the city.
Animal Control Issues
July 16 – Repeat Dog at Large Violations Richard D. Hohne was issued citations for animals running at large and failure to register his dog after neighbors reported the animal was again loose in the neighborhood crossing Harper Lane and roaming between properties. A neighbor filed the complaint after receiving photos from a witness showing the dog in multiple yards. This marked the second offense for the same violations within four days, elevating the charges to fourth-degree misdemeanors. Summit County Auditor’s Office confirmed no registration application had been received.
Property and Lost Items
July 11 – Stolen Dog Reunited with Owner After Year A dramatic reunion took place at Walmart when a man spotted his dog that had been missing for over a year. The dog owner confronted the woman who had taken the animal, and she admitted to finding the dog loose and keeping it. No charges were filed as the owner requested only the return of his pet.
July 10 – Lost Wallet Returned to Owner Kohl’s loss prevention found a wallet in their parking lot and turned it over to police. The wallet was returned to its Northfield owner with all contents intact.
July 6 – Mountain Bike Found on Highway Officers recovered an abandoned mountain bike from Interstate 271 and placed it in evidence for safekeeping.
Theft and Shoplifting
July 9 – Walmart Trespassing and Theft Arrest Jose Manuel Amaro was arrested for theft and criminal trespass at Walmart after skip-scanning merchandise valued at $160.38. Officers discovered Amaro had been previously trespassed from Walmart locations in Florida on two separate occasions. All stolen goods were recovered at the scene.
July 7 – Home Depot Theft Leads to Multiple Arrests Officers arrested two individuals after a theft at Home Depot on Macedonia Commons Boulevard. Kimberly Ann Dowdy was charged with shoplifting merchandise valued at $560.69, while Shawn Michael Ramsey was arrested on theft charges and driving violations. The incident was connected to a previous June theft at the same location involving hot water tanks.
July 6 – Best Buy Trading Card Theft Paul Brady Wilson was arrested for stealing Magic the Gathering cards from Best Buy on East Aurora Road. The suspect concealed the cards and left without paying. Wilson later showed remorse and cooperated with police.
July 1 – Walmart Shoplifting Arrest Rebecca Ree Pinkston was charged with theft after skip-scanning items at Walmart, attempting to pay reduced prices for $38.96 worth of merchandise.
Traffic and OVI Incidents
July 20 – OVI Arrest After Improper Turn Theron Troyne Calhoun was arrested for OVI and multiple license violations after making an improper turn onto State Route 82 from Valley View Road. During the traffic stop near Speedway, the officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the suspect’s breath and person. Calhoun admitted to drinking one beer and agreed to field sobriety tests. He displayed evidence of impairment during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and failed the Walk and Turn test by stepping off the line and using his arms for balance. During the One Leg Stand test, he swayed, put his foot down twice, and used his arms for balance. A breath test resulted in .022 BAC. Calhoun was charged with OVI, judgment suspension, failure to reinstate license, and improper turning at intersections.
July 18 – Traffic Stop Leads to Resistance and Drug Charges A traffic stop on Interstate 271 near Ledge Road bridge for high beam violations and speeding resulted in multiple charges when the driver resisted arrest. The officer detected a strong odor of suspected burnt marijuana and observed that the unlicensed driver had watery, glossy eyes and a blank stare. When ordered to exit the vehicle for investigation, the suspect refused and pulled away from officers. He was forcibly removed from the vehicle and arrested after a struggle that left him with a scrape and small cut under his left eye. The vehicle was towed and several marijuana packages and burnt marijuana were found inside. The registered owner had an active felony warrant for firearms offenses.
July 7 – Highway Stop Yields Drug and Theft Charges A traffic stop on Interstate 271 for speeding led to the discovery of suspected stolen merchandise and drugs. Alexus Unique Butler and Kiara Tashar Prowell were arrested after officers found merchandise from multiple retailers and prescription pills in their vehicle. The case remains under investigation.
July 7 – Multiple Violations in Early Morning Stop Angel Lyn Jackson was arrested on Interstate 271 for OVI, failure to reinstate license, and speeding. Jackson was traveling 86 mph in a 65 mph zone and failed field sobriety tests. She refused a breath test and was placed under administrative license suspension.
July 2 – Disabled Vehicle Leads to OVI Arrest Victoria Avila was arrested for OVI after officers found her vehicle disabled on Interstate 271 with the door open and vomit nearby. Avila registered a 0.174 blood alcohol content, well above the legal limit.
Fraud and Identity Theft
July 19 – PlayStation Warranty Fraud Report A resident filed a report for documentation purposes regarding suspected warranty fraud involving a PlayStation 5 protection plan purchased June 25 at Walmart. When she attempted to activate the three-year protection plan worth $59 plus tax, it showed the item had been returned in Washington state without her knowledge. Walmart required a police report before processing her fraud claim with corporate offices.
July 2 – Vehicle Lease Identity Fraud Case A resident reported someone used his identity to lease a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport, resulting in a civil lawsuit. The victim chose not to pursue criminal charges at this time.
July 1 – Bank Fraud Attempt Investigated Police investigated an attempted fraudulent withdrawal at First National Bank of Pennsylvania where an unknown female tried to access a customer’s account for $3,200. The bank prevented the transaction and the suspect fled in a white SUV.
Interagency Assistance
July 22 – Welfare Check Assistance at Casino Officers assisted Northfield Village Police and Sagamore Hills Police with a welfare check at MGM casino on Northfield Road. The incident involved a man who had made suicidal comments earlier in the day to his mother, prompting Parma Police to call in the welfare check. Officers located the individual’s vehicle in the parking lot and found him at a slot machine inside the main entrance. After speaking with him, no further assistance was needed.
July 19 – Street Racing Dispersal Multiple Macedonia units assisted Northfield Village and Sagamore Hills police in dispersing a large crowd engaged in street racing and reckless driving in the parking lot on Northfield Road. While units were responding, Northfield Village started a pursuit of a vehicle from the parking lot. Officers successfully cleared the area without incident after advising everyone to leave the property.
July 17 – Stolen Vehicle Suspects Apprehended Macedonia officers assisted multiple agencies in locating three suspects who fled from a stolen vehicle pursuit on Interstate 480. Streetsboro Police was pursuing a vehicle stolen from Aurora when Twinsburg Police successfully deployed stop sticks. The suspects bailed from the vehicle before the Macedonia exit. Officers located the first suspect hiding on the northwest corner of a building at Shepard Road. A second suspect was spotted near the fence line and taken into custody. The third suspect was located after a K-9 warning and surrendered. All three individuals were turned over to Streetsboro Police without incident.
July 12 – Terror Watch List Individual Identified Macedonia officers assisted Walton Hills Police with fingerprint identification that revealed a suspect had active warrants from New Jersey and Homeland Security for immigration violations. The individual was also found to be on the FBI’s terror watch list.
