SERIOUS CRIMES
Man Arrested for Stun Gun Assault, Witness Intimidation Kidnapping charge added after prosecutor consultation
John Mozer, 70, of Ravenna was arrested August 8 on multiple felony charges after allegedly using a stun gun on a victim while intimidating a witness in an ongoing court case. According to police reports, Mozer blocked the victim in a bedroom, made him lift his shirt and activated a handheld stun gun on the victim’s chest. The victim pushed past Mozer and ran outside while being chased.
The incident occurred August 7 and was related to witness intimidation in Portage County Court case 2025CR0043D. Police obtained probable cause warrants and arrested Mozer at his residence. After consultation with the prosecutor’s office, an additional kidnapping charge was filed. Mozer was discovered to be admitted at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, where officials were notified of the warrant.
The case involves felonious assault due to the location where the stun gun was used, intimidation of a witness, and kidnapping charges.
OVI/TRAFFIC INCIDENTS
Woman Arrested for OVI After Single-Vehicle Crash Blood alcohol nearly twice legal limit
Casey Smith, 28, of Ravenna was arrested early August 3 following a single-vehicle crash at Highland Avenue and North Diamond Street. Smith admitted to taking the turn poorly and submitted to field sobriety tests. Breath testing revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.168, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. Smith was cited for OVI and failure to control and released.
DRUG CRIMES
Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges Methamphetamine discovered during search
Trent Milano, 49, of Mantua was arrested August 4 during a traffic stop for failure to stop before a sidewalk when leaving private property. During the investigation, police discovered Milano had a suspended license and an active warrant through Garrettsville Police. A search revealed methamphetamine. Milano was transferred to Garrettsville Police and faces local drug charges.
DOMESTIC INCIDENTS
Man Arrested for Violating Protection Order Spotted entering vehicle with protected person
Robert Gay, 61, of Ravenna was arrested August 4 for violating a protection order after police observed him enter a vehicle with a person protected by the order. Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Gay for the first-degree misdemeanor violation. He was transported to Portage County Justice Center.
Assault Case Results in Multiple Charges Intoxicated suspect struck victim multiple times
Richard Pfromm, 55, of Ravenna was arrested August 3 on assault, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct charges after reportedly striking a victim several times while intoxicated. Pfromm was uncooperative during booking and no booking photo was obtained. He was served with complaint paperwork at the jail.
WARRANT ARRESTS
Multiple Warrant Arrests Throughout Week Both felony and misdemeanor warrants served
Police served numerous outstanding warrants during the week:
August 1: Donell Roberts, 40, of Ravenna and Bruce Mollohan, 43, of Ravenna were arrested on separate misdemeanor warrants during traffic stops. Mollohan was also cited for driving under suspension.
August 3: Camryn Thompson, 20, of Cuyahoga Falls and Trevor LaFontaine, 18, of Ravenna were arrested on felony warrants from Ohio Department of Natural Resources during traffic stops.
August 4: Andrew Greathouse, 33, was arrested on a felony warrant from another agency.
August 5-6: Herbert McKinney, 46, John Herron, 26, and Valerie Nunn, 27, were arrested on various misdemeanor warrants.
MINOR OFFENSES
Open Container Violations Three separate incidents result in citations
Three individuals received citations for open container violations:
August 3: Tony Gear, 55, of Alliance was found sleeping on a bench with an open beer can. He initially claimed he was in a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) but was not in the designated zone.
August 8: Michael Jarvis, 49, of Ravenna was cited after admitting ownership of an open Fireball container and beer can. Daniel Reusel, 75, of Ravenna was also cited for an open beer can.
Juvenile Case Unruly juvenile charges filed
A juvenile was processed August 7 on charges of habitually disobedient behavior under unruly juvenile offense statutes.
Animal Control Issue Animals running at large citation
Desire Barb, 33, received a citation August 7 for animals running at large.
