September 5-13 Detailed Incident Summary

Warrant Arrests

September 5 began with officers discovering a woman with an active felony warrant sitting in a parked vehicle on Silver Meadows Boulevard in Kent. Portage County Sheriff’s deputies took custody without incident.

The same individual was arrested again September 7 during a traffic stop for expired registration. Officers found her hiding under clothing on the rear passenger floorboard. She was known to have active warrants and was again turned over to county authorities.

Additional warrant arrests included a man taken into custody September 8 during a traffic stop where he was a passenger, and another man arrested September 10 directly from the Adult Probation office where he was already being processed on other matters.

A traffic stop September 10 for a vehicle driving without headlights resulted in the discovery of multiple active warrants against the driver, who also had a suspended license.

Domestic Violence Cases

Brother Punches Sibling in Mouth During Dispute Physical altercation follows property damage accusations

A domestic violence arrest September 6 followed a welfare check that revealed a woman had been pushed, slapped and grabbed by the neck by her partner, who was determined to be the primary aggressor.

Three days later, officers responded to another physical domestic dispute on Oakwood Street. The suspect admitted to hitting his brother, causing a minor mouth injury, after the brother confronted him about trashing their residence. An independent witness verified the account. The suspect was charged with domestic violence and transported to the justice center.

Juvenile Incidents

Officers responded to a juvenile problem where a father reported his daughter had been disobedient and took his vehicle after lying about going to the dollar store. When he located her and the car at a friend’s residence, he discovered marijuana and alcohol inside. The teen admitted ownership of the contraband, leading to charges for drug possession, paraphernalia possession, underage alcohol consumption, and unruly juvenile behavior.

Middle School Student Threatens Shooting 10-year-old admits to threatening classmate with BB gun attack

A juvenile was charged September 8 with making false alarms after threatening to bring a gun to Brown Middle School and “shoot up the school.” The incident occurred August 28 when the student told a classmate he would bring a gun to school. The other student reported the threat to teachers.

During police interviews with school officials, the juvenile admitted to saying “he was going to bring a gun to the school and shoot up the school.” He later told investigators “it was a joke and that it was going to be with a BB gun” and claimed he “tried telling the student that it was a joke” but the student left before he could clarify. After consulting with the prosecutor’s office, charges were filed for making false alarms.

Drug Arrests

Traffic Stop Yields Methamphetamine Discovery Nervous behavior leads to consent search, drug charges

September 11 police stopped a man for disobeying a pedestrian crossing signal. The officer noticed the suspect’s nervous behavior, heavy breathing, and unsteady movement. After obtaining consent to search, police found a glass jar containing THC wax and a crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in the suspect’s pocket. When asked for permission to search, the man replied “that I could” and said “it was fine” when asked to empty his pockets.

Alcohol-Related Disturbances

Intoxicated Man Refuses to Leave Business Parking Lot Public intoxication case requires hospital transport

September 10 officers arrested a 65-year-old man for disorderly conduct after he was found yelling and cursing in a parking lot while extremely intoxicated. The suspect admitted to “being intoxicated and to cursing at the female caller.” He had received a verbal warning for disorderly conduct less than two hours earlier.

The following day, officers responded to a business parking lot where a heavily intoxicated 59-year-old man refused to leave and was unable to care for himself. He was transported to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for treatment and charged with disorderly conduct.
