Solon – A 24-year-old male reported falling victim to an online extortion scheme that began on a dating application. The victim initially connected with someone claiming to be an adult female on the dating app Duet before the conversation moved to the messaging platform Telegram. During their exchanges, the alleged female sent nude photographs to the victim, who reciprocated by sending similar images of himself.
The interaction quickly turned criminal when the victim began receiving demands for $500, with threats that his nude photos would be posted on social media platforms if payment was not made. When the victim refused to pay, he began receiving phone calls with continued demands and escalating threats. The victim noted that the callers appeared to have foreign accents, suggesting the operation may be international in scope.
The case has been assigned to the Detective Bureau for further investigation. This incident highlights the growing trend of sextortion schemes targeting users of dating applications and social media platforms.
Felonious assault September 18, 10:36 PM, 32400 Block of Hamilton Court
Officers responded to a domestic violence call after a 24-year-old female contacted police reporting that her boyfriend was unconscious. Emergency medical services were also dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers encountered difficulty getting the suspect to come to the door. When he finally answered, the 27-year-old male appeared incoherent and disoriented, seemingly unaware of the situation around him. Officers observed abrasions and blood on his right hand.
The victim returned to the scene shortly after the initial response and displayed obvious facial injuries. She reported that her boyfriend had struck her in the face with a closed fist during an altercation. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
During their investigation, officers discovered suspected controlled substances in a backpack belonging to the suspect. The male was taken to a separate hospital facility under police guard for medical evaluation. Following his medical clearance, he was transported to Solon Jail and charged with Felonious Assault, a second-degree felony. He remains in custody pending his arraignment hearing.
