Gates Mills Police Reports: Resident Reports a 9-Year-Old Break-In

Man Found Sleeping at Post Office Officers responded to the Gates Mills Post Office on Sept. 21 at 6:45 a.m. after reports of a man sleeping inside. The individual, who said he was homeless and traveling from Canton, had spent a few hours in the 24-hour lobby while walking from Geauga County. Officers provided him with a courtesy ride to Mayfield Heights at his request. Post office staff were notified of the incident.

Motorist Reports Medical Issue, Declines Help A driver on Mayfield Road contacted police on Sept. 22 about a medical condition while driving. The motorist later advised officers that assistance was no longer needed and said he would drive himself to Hillcrest Hospital.

School Bus Backs Into Stop Sign A Willoughby-Eastlake school bus struck a stop sign while turning around at County Line and Gates Mills Estates Drive on Sept. 24 at 12:15 p.m. A report was filed.

Resident Seeks Information on Years-Old Break-In A Hillcreek resident visited the police station on Sept. 25 to discuss a break-in at his home that occurred nine years ago. Officers provided information and assistance.

Contractor Reports Stolen Ladder A contractor reported his extension ladder, valued at $300, was stolen from outside a residence on Old Mill on Sept. 25. The contractor said he left the property briefly and discovered the ladder missing when he returned. A report was filed.

Welfare Check Finds Resident Sleeping Officers conducted a welfare check on a Hillcreek Lane resident on Sept. 27 after her daughter was unable to reach her by phone. The resident was found sleeping and had not heard the phone ring.
