Officials tracking potential impacts on SNAP, Medicaid and veterans’ services
The federal government shutdown that began Tuesday has Northeast Ohio officials monitoring potential disruptions to federally funded programs.
Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro released a statement acknowledging concerns for federal employees and contractors living in the region. Her office is tracking any changes that could affect services including SNAP benefits, Medicaid and veterans’ programs.
County departments are reviewing which local programs receive federal funding to assess potential service interruptions. Officials said they will communicate updates promptly if changes occur.
Shapiro’s office remains in contact with U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes’ office to monitor local impacts. Sykes created an FAQ page addressing shutdown-related questions for residents.
Officials encouraged anyone affected by the shutdown to contact local community support services or check county websites for updates.
