Maplewood Senior Living Director Honored for Memory Care Innovation

Intergenerational program connects residents with college students to preserve life stories

The Ohio Assisted Living Association has recognized Adena McGowen, corporate director of memory care at Maplewood Senior Living, with its Honoring Excellence Award for her innovative approach to resident care.

McGowen received the Outstanding Corporate Director of Memory Care designation for creating an intergenerational legacy project that paired memory care residents with local college students. The program allows residents to share their personal life histories while students help record these stories and create keepsake memory books.

Morgan Iorio, who nominated McGowen for the award, said the project celebrated the unique stories of residents while fostering understanding and connection across generations.

The Ohio Assisted Living Association presents the Honoring Excellence Award annually to individuals who demonstrate vision, innovation, leadership and compassion in their work across Ohio’s assisted living communities. The association represents over 600 licensed communities throughout the state.

A committee composed of members from the OALA Board of Trustees and Leadership Council selects award recipients.
