PARMA HTS., Ohio โย An early-morning Parma Heights double fatal crash on a slick, snow-covered stretch of West Ridgewood Drive left two young men dead and is serving as a sobering reminder about the dangers of winter driving at high speeds.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 2 a.m. near the intersection of West Ridgewood Drive and Ames Road. First responders remained on scene for hours, and the road was not fully cleared until around 7 a.m.
Victims Identified
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examinerโs Office identified the victims in the Parma Heights double fatal crash as:
- 23-year-old Vladyslav Andriy Kravtsiv
- 27-year-old George Prediy
Both men were in the same vehicle when it left the roadway and slammed into a tree in front of a residence on West Ridgewood Drive. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Slick, Snow-Covered Roads and Likely Speed Factor
At the time of the crash, roads in Parma Heights were very slick and snow covered, with drivers across Northeast Ohio dealing with wintry conditions, patches of ice and snow, and limited traction.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, speed is believed to be a likely factor, given:
- The severity of the damage
- The vehicle being split in two
- The crash occurring on a residential street
Crash reconstruction work typically includes examining skid marks or yaw marks, analyzing the wreckage, reviewing any onboard vehicle data, and seeking out possible home or doorbell camera footage in the area.
Sobering Winter Driving Reminder
This Parma Heights double fatal crash underscores how quickly a routine drive can turn deadly when snow, ice, and speed combine.
Safety officials and driving experts consistently urge:
- Slow down well below the posted speed limit when roads are slick or snow covered.
- Increase following distance to allow extra time to brake on icy or packed-snow surfaces.
- Avoid sudden braking, acceleration, or sharp steering, which can easily cause a loss of control.
- Always wear seat belts in both the front and back seats.
- Plan extra travel time so thereโs no pressure to speed in bad weather.
As investigators continue their work and the community processes the tragedy, the crash stands as a stark reminder of how unforgiving winter roads can beโespecially when high speed is involved.
