By Julie D’Aloiso
MACEDONIA, Ohio โย Ten years ago, I launched NordoniaHills.News because I noticed something missing in our community: the local newspaper wasnโt sharing stories on social media where so many of us were already spending our time. I believed thenโand still do nowโthat local news needs to be easy to find, easy to share, and rooted in the neighborhoods we actually live in. Back then, it was just me, one website, and a simple goal: keep Nordonia Hills informed about what was happening around them.
Growing From One Community to Many
Fast forward to May 2025, and my little local news experiment grew in a big way. I acquired Northeast Ohio News, expanding the footprint from one community into a regional platform. That move opened the door to tell more stories, reach more residents, and support more local businesses across the region.
Within just the last week, I took another big step and launched two new hyperlocal news websites: a news site focused on Aurora and a news site dedicated to the StowโMunroe Falls area. Each of these sites is designed with the same mission I had when I started NordoniaHills.News: to give people a reliable, accessible place to find out whatโs going on in their own backyard.
And this is only the beginning. I plan to roll out more city-specific websites over time, based on two things:
- What communities are actively requesting coverage, and
- Whether local businesses will step up to support this work through advertising.
If residents are asking for more coverage and businesses are willing to invest in local visibility, that tells me a city is ready for its own dedicated news hub.
What We Cover: Meetings, Events, and Everyday Community Life
My goal with all of these news websites is straightforward: to provide a platform that highlights council meetings, planning meetings, local events, and the various things happening in our cities. While I don’t attend these meetings in person, I am dedicated to making sure that information, once available, has a place to live and be shared.
We also share a ton of information on our social media accounts for these cities from other placesย on social media because that is where the conversation is happening. Itโs simply the way a large part of the community gets its information now, and I want to make sure that information is accurate and easy to access.
Email Newsletters Today and Tomorrow
For NordoniaHills.News, we already have an email newsletter that goes directly to subscribers with updates and top stories. Itโs a simple, direct way to stay in touch with readers who might not see every post on social media.
Iโm planning to launch email newsletters for the other three entitiesโNortheast Ohio News, Aurora, and Stow-Munroe Fallsโin 2026. As these communities grow and engage more with our content, newsletters will be another layer of connection, right in their inboxes.
Filling The Gap Left by Fading Newspapers
We all know that traditional newspapers have been fading awayโfewer print editions, smaller staffs, and in some places, no daily local coverage at all. Thatโs a huge loss for communities.
These websites are my answer to that problem.
By building an online-first, social-media-savvy local news network, Iโm trying to make sure local stories donโt disappear just because the old model of print is shrinking. Instead, weโre meeting people where they already areโonline, on social platforms, on their phones, and in their email.
Helping Local Businesses Be Seen
Another major reason for building this network of news sites is to help local businesses by providing a place for them to advertise.
Through NordoniaHills.News and Northeast Ohio News together, we now reach:
- Hundreds of thousands of unique visitors and millions of pageviews (based on 2025 data)
- About 2.8 million Facebook views and 50,000+ link clicks in just a 90โday period (as of late 2025)
- A Nordonia email newsletter with around 3,000 subscribers and an impressive 53% open rate
Those numbers represent real people in our communitiesโneighbors, customers, parents, business ownersโwho are already engaging with local content every single day.
When a local shop, restaurant, or service provider runs an ad with us, itโs not just about filling a space on a page. Itโs about:
- Putting their business in front of thousands of local eyes
- Supporting the local news coverage that keeps the community informed
- Creating a cycle where businesses and residents help each other thrive
If this model continues to be supported by local advertisers, it will make it possible to keep expanding into more cities across Northeast Ohio.
A New Tool for Business Owners: NEO Name Craft
Recently, I took that business support idea one step further.
Within the last couple of weeks, we launched a separate website just for businesses in Northeast Ohio who are looking to find information for permits and data. Itโs called NEO Name Craft โ NEOnamecraft.com โ and itโs designed to make the startup and naming process easier and more interesting.
On NEO Name Craft, business owners can:
- Find information related to permits and local data
- Explore name ideas for their business based on the history and character of the city theyโre moving into
We currently have 30 cities and communities listed on there, and that number will continue to grow. The idea is to make it a practical, creative resource for the next wave of small business owners choosing to call Northeast Ohio home.
Looking Ahead
From one websiteโNordoniaHills.Newsโto a growing network that now includes Northeast Ohio News, new sites for Aurora and Stow-Munroe Falls, plus NEO Name Craft, this journey has been about one thing: keeping our communities connected.
I will likely roll out more city-specific news websites in the future, but only where there is a clear need and where local businesses are willing to support this work. Community interest plus business backing is what makes sustainable local coverage possible.
Iโm excited to keep sharing local events, spotlighting businesses, and building tools that help both residents and entrepreneurs. Local news isnโt just about headlinesโitโs about belonging. And my goal is to make sure the people of Northeast Ohio always have a place online where their community feels seen.
