Starting a Business in Brecksville Ohio: Local Resources

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio โ€“ Brecksville Planning Commission members began their Jan. 8 meeting with organizational votes, then moved through several sign applications for local businesses and updates to tenant signage documents connected to the Valor Acres mixed-use development.

Organizational Meeting: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary Selected

The Planning Commission voted to select Eric Lahrmer as chair, Dominic Sciria as vice chairperson and Lawry Kardos as secretary, according to the meeting transcript and the cityโ€™s online board directory.

Sign Approvals: Bank, Coffee/Bakery, and Flour Restaurant

Most of the meeting involved sign requestsโ€”largely replacement or updated sign packagesโ€”that required deviations from Brecksvilleโ€™s sign code.

8751 Brecksville Road: Bank Sign Replacements

A representative presented a request to replace existing signs at 8751 Brecksville Road after a bank acquisition, including wall signs and tenant panels on a monument sign. The commission approved the package contingent on City Council approval of deviations, including a deviation related to wall sign placement and a deviation allowing multiple wall signs per unit.

7305 Chippewa Road: Goldieโ€™s Bakery / Erie Island Coffee Sign Updates

A sign company representative presented updates at 7305 Chippewa Road, including replacement faces for a monument sign, an internally illuminated wall sign and updated drive-thru menu board panels. The commission approved the application with several deviations, noting the site already had multiple ground signs and menu boards.

5720 Independence Drive, Suite 100: Flour Restaurant Ground Sign

The commission approved a revised patio/planter-area ground sign for Flour Restaurant at 5720 Independence Drive, Suite 100, contingent on City Council approval of a deviation to allow a six-foot-tall ground sign.

Valor Acres Documents: โ€œManualโ€ Changed to โ€œGuidelinesโ€

In work session, the commission reviewed amendments to tenant documents for the Valor Acres mixed-use project, including changing the language from โ€œmanualโ€ to โ€œguidelinesโ€ and clarifying that deviations and approvals ultimately go through the City of Brecksville review process. The commission approved the amendments contingent on City Council approval.

AT&T Antenna Equipment Swap: Public Hearing Waived

The commission also approved a request involving updated AT&T equipment at an existing wireless facility at 6898 Miller Road, waiving the public hearing requirement and forwarding the approval contingent on City Council approval and structural review.
