COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – On January 9, 2026, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious assault report on Peach Drive in Coventry Township involving a 59-year-old female who reportedly assaulted a victim inside a residence.
The victim reported that Mary A. Gross, age 59, struck him in the face and then threw a hatchet at him. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim able to exit the home, but Gross had barricaded herself inside. The victim sustained only minor injuries.
The Summit County Sheriff’s SWAT Team and Negotiators were called to the scene. After a standoff, Gross surrendered peacefully at approximately 6:55 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident.
Gross faces charges of Felonious Assault (F2) and Domestic Violence (F4) and was transported to the Summit County Jail.
