CLEVELAND, Ohio – Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Tremont is asking for the public’s help after a break-in that church leaders say led to the theft of beloved prayer plates. Parishioners are offering a $2,000 reward for information that helps recover the items and identify the person responsible.

Church representatives said the thief forced entry into the building, causing damage, and stole the congregation’s prayer plates—items often made of precious metals but valued far more for their spiritual and family significance. The plates are associated with prayers for loved ones and, in many cases, are connected to generations of families within the church community.

Parish leaders have expressed concern that the stolen items could be sold quickly for far less than their true value—or melted down—making recovery more difficult. They are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity, or who comes across the plates being offered for sale, to contact Cleveland police.

The church has also emphasized that their priority is getting the prayer plates back, noting that returning the items would mean a great deal to the families who placed them there over the years.
