GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio – A 22-year-old man from Portage County was killed Saturday night after a snowmobile crash on a trail in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. in Shingleton Township in Alger County, an area known for popular winter recreation trails. Authorities said the man was riding a snowmobile on a marked trail near a highway when the vehicle struck a tree while navigating a turn.
First responders arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the man died from his injuries shortly after the crash.
Officials said weather and trail conditions are still being reviewed as part of the investigation. No other vehicles were involved.
