Cleveland Browns Announce Plans to Move Stadium to Brook Park by 2028

Cleveland, OH – The Cleveland Browns made a groundbreaking announcement today, revealing plans to relocate their iconic lakefront stadium to a new state-of-the-art domed facility in Brook Park by 2028. This decision marks a major shift for the team and fans alike, with the new location offering the potential for expanded year-round use and significant economic impact for the area.

Why the Move?

Team officials cited multiple reasons for the decision, with the limitations of the current lakefront site being a primary factor. While FirstEnergy Stadium has been home to the Browns since 1999, its open-air design restricts its use to the football season, and the location near Lake Erie has posed logistical challenges for both construction and game-day operations due to unpredictable lakefront weather.

“Relocating to Brook Park provides us with the opportunity to build a cutting-edge facility that will serve as a community and entertainment hub year-round,” said Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns. “We want a stadium that can host major events beyond football games, including concerts, conventions, and even sporting events during the offseason.”

The new facility will feature a retractable roof, allowing for flexible use throughout the year. This design is expected to draw additional events to Cleveland and improve the fan experience, shielding them from Northeast Ohio’s often harsh winter conditions.

Community and Economic Impact

Brook Park, located near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, has been seeking avenues for economic growth and revitalization. City officials believe the stadium could attract visitors, boost local businesses, and create job opportunities. Brook Park Mayor Edward Kraus expressed optimism, stating, “This stadium is a game-changer for Brook Park and the surrounding communities. We anticipate a significant increase in foot traffic, which will help local businesses thrive.”

The Browns’ stadium project is projected to cost around $1.2 billion, with funding expected to come from a mix of public and private sources. The team plans to work with city and state officials to secure financial support and has assured residents that community feedback will be incorporated into the project’s design and planning phases.

Fan Reactions

The news has been met with a range of reactions from Browns fans. Many long-time fans are nostalgic about the lakefront location, which has become synonymous with Cleveland football and its history. However, others are excited about the prospect of a modern facility that can enhance the game-day experience.

“I’ll miss the lakefront views, but I think this new stadium could be amazing for fans,” said Rachel McIntyre, a season ticket holder. “A dome means we won’t have to sit through freezing temperatures and snowstorms, which will make it more enjoyable for everyone.”

Some fans, however, have raised concerns about transportation and accessibility to the new site. Brook Park officials have stated that they are committed to creating a robust transportation plan that will include public transit options and improvements to nearby infrastructure to facilitate easy access on game days.

A New Era for Cleveland Sports

The Browns’ move to Brook Park symbolizes more than just a physical relocation—it represents a strategic decision aimed at expanding the team’s brand, supporting economic growth, and creating a landmark venue for Northeast Ohio. The proposed stadium will not only serve Browns fans but also contribute to Cleveland’s appeal as a destination for large-scale events.

If everything proceeds on schedule, Browns fans can expect to see their team play in a new stadium by the 2028 season. The Browns organization plans to continue working with the community and will hold public forums in the coming months to gather input and address any questions.

The new stadium, complete with a retractable roof, will place Cleveland among other cities with multi-use domed facilities, enhancing its reputation as a city capable of hosting major events and ensuring Browns fans can enjoy games comfortably, regardless of the season.
