Fairfield County Man Indicted on 18 Felony Charges in Double Homicide Case

LANCASTER, Ohio — A 26-year-old Lancaster man has been indicted on multiple felony charges including aggravated murder in connection with a February shooting that left two people dead and another injured.

Kyle Allan Varney faces 18 felony counts following an indictment filed Wednesday by a Fairfield County grand jury. The charges include two counts of aggravated murder, four counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, six counts of felonious assault, and three counts of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on February 25, 2025, at a residence in Lancaster. Varney is accused of causing the deaths of two individuals and seriously injuring a third person. All charges carry firearms specifications, as Varney allegedly used a Mossberg 12-gauge pump action shotgun during the commission of the offenses.

Fairfield County Prosecutor R. Kyle Witt is handling the case, which has been assigned to Judge Richard E. Berens in the Fairfield County Common Pleas Court.

Varney, who resides on North Broad Street in Lancaster, is being held at the Fairfield County Jail. His date of birth is listed as October 12, 1998, making him 26 years old.

The case number is 2025CR00084. Further court proceedings are pending.

Indictments contain only charges and do not indicate guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
