ODOT Releases Weekly Traffic Advisories for Northeast Ohio

Construction projects affect all six counties in District 4

The Ohio Department of Transportation issued its weekly traffic advisory Friday for District 4, covering ongoing construction projects affecting drivers across Ashtabula, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull counties.

Summit County Construction

The I-76/I-77/State Route 8 Akron Beltway reconstruction project, which began in June 2021, is expected to be completed in July. The Central Interchange project includes extensive pavement replacement and the addition of a southbound lane on State Route 8 between Carroll and Beacon streets.

Work continuing through the summer includes resurfacing of the I-76/Kenmore Leg westbound and I-277 eastbound, with multiple closures associated with this project. All detours will be posted for affected areas.

The $54.6 million I-77 widening project between Everett Road and State Route 21 in Bath and Richfield townships continues, expanding the highway from four to six lanes. Traffic is being maintained on I-77 with occasional weekend ramp closures.

Noise walls are under construction along I-77 between Waterloo Road and Lovers Lane in Akron. The $11.9 million project started in November and is scheduled for completion in September.

State Route 91 in Hudson has reopened after recent work. The State Route 8 bridge replacement project in Akron continues with crews launching the new bridge.

Trumbull County Updates

Resurfacing work continues on U.S. Route 422 and State Route 5 through Champion, Southington and Warren townships, with various lane restrictions in effect through September.

The diverging diamond interchange project at State Routes 46 and 82 in Howland Township continues, with crews working on the westbound bridge structure.

State Route 170 in New Middletown continues to experience delays as crews work on pavement and drainage replacements. The multi-phase project is set for completion in fall.

State Route 305 at North Park Avenue has been converted to an all-way stop intersection.

Mahoning County Projects

Crews are finishing culvert replacement work on State Route 14, with completion expected by the end of the week.

Interstate 680 between Gibson Street and U.S. 224 continues resurfacing work that began in fall, with various lane restrictions ongoing.

Stark County Work

A culvert replacement project continues on State Route 153 just east of Meese Road in Louisville, scheduled for completion by early next week.

Ashtabula County Updates

State Route 531 between State Route 193 and LaBounty Road has reopened after erosion control work.

The roundabout at State Route 307 and State Route 534 is now open.

Portage County Activity

Microsurfacing work continues on various county routes as part of ongoing maintenance projects.

Safety Reminder

Summit County recorded the most work zone crashes in Ohio last year with 814 incidents, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. ODOT officials urge drivers to pay attention and exercise patience in construction zones.
