Summit County’s Finance and Budget Department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for another consecutive year.
The national recognition, established in 1984, honors state and local governments that produce exceptional budget documents. The nonprofit GFOA represents more than 20,000 members across the United States and Canada.
To earn the award, budgets must excel in four key areas: serving as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Three independent judges review and grade each submission.
County Executive Ilene Shapiro praised the department’s achievement, highlighting the team’s dedication to sound financial practices during challenging economic times. Finance and Budget Director Phil Montgomery emphasized the recognition reflects the team’s commitment to financial responsibility and transparency.
The department’s consistent recognition demonstrates Summit County’s ongoing efforts to maintain financial health while ensuring budget information remains accessible to residents and decision-makers.
