Summit County Launches Month-Long ‘Pup-kin Patch’ Dog Adoption Event

Reduced adoption fees aim to find homes for shelter dogs during fall season

Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced a special autumn adoption promotion running through the end of September. The “Pup-kin Patch” event reduces dog adoption fees from $94 to $28 at Summit County Animal Control.

The month-long promotion began Wednesday and continues through September 30. All adopted dogs come fully vetted with microchipping, bloodwork, flea treatments, deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and vaccinations. Adopters also receive a 2025 Summit County Dog License included in the cost.

Summit County Animal Control is located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron. The facility operates Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents can schedule appointments by calling 330-643-2845 or visit during business hours. Available dogs can be viewed on Summit County Animal Control’s Facebook page or through 24 Pet Connect online.

The promotion encourages families to add a pet during the fall season, with activities like football tailgating, farmer’s market visits, and evening bonfires providing opportunities for new dog owners to bond with their pets.
