Aurora residents have several ways to celebrate the season and support neighbors in need as 2025 comes to a close. Here’s a quick look at key holiday events and local food donation options in the city.
Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Morning – more info here.
Aurora’s annual Turkey Trot returns on Thanksgiving morning, with both a one‑mile event and a 5K run/walk.
- One‑mile starts at 8 a.m.
- 5K starts at 8:30 a.m.
- Registration is already over 480 participants.
- The field is capped at 1,300 runners and walkers, so those interested are encouraged to sign up early.
The Turkey Trot has grown into a popular way for residents to start the holiday with a community event before gatherings later in the day.
Tree Lighting and Holiday Festival – more info here.
Aurora’s annual tree lighting and holiday festival will take place on Saturday, November 29, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Bicentennial Park by the gazebo in the center of town.
The festival is set to include:
- Food trucks
- Music
- Ice carving
- Games and family activities
The tree lighting itself is scheduled for 5 p.m., with Santa and costumed characters expected to appear. Families can also take advantage of the Santa mailbox in front of the library, available through December 18. Children are asked to include a return address if they want a reply.

Aurora’s Holiday Lights Tour invites residents and businesses to decorate and be part of a citywide driving tour.

The tour provides a self‑guided way for families to see decorated homes and displays throughout the city during the season.
Breakfast With Santa
Breakfast With Santa will be held on December 6 at The Bertram.

- There are two seatings that day.
Tickets typically sell quickly, so families who want to attend are encouraged to register early once sales open.
How to Support Local Food Programs
Alongside the seasonal events, several local food programs are working to assist residents who need help during the holidays and beyond. Community members can donate food or money to support these efforts.
Aurora Community Relief Program
Located at The Church in Aurora, this program provides local assistance to residents.

Volunteers of America Pantry
A Volunteers of America food pantry operates at 1063 State Route 43.
- Donations of food or funds are accepted to help stock the pantry.
Food to Share – Fill a Bag
The Food to Share initiative, started by Aurora resident Bruce Harris, coordinates an annual community food drive.
