Solon Police Department reports a series of fraud incidents and criminal arrests.

SOLON, Ohio – Recent Solon Police reports highlight a wave of criminal activity involving sophisticated “imposter” email scams, mail tampering, and firearm seizures during traffic stops. Between February 24 and March 1, 2026, local authorities documented several high-value fraud cases resulting in a combined loss of over $9,000, while officers on patrol recovered illegal weapons and arrested an individual found sleeping behind the wheel with a blood alcohol concentration significantly above the legal limit.

Sophisticated Fraud and Financial Theft

Financial crimes remain a primary concern in the latest Solon Police reports, with victims targeted through digital, mail, and employment-related deception.

  • Estate Sale Email Scam: On February 24, a 39-year-old Solon woman reported receiving an email from a compromised or imposter account she believed belonged to an acquaintance regarding an estate sale. After making contact with the “seller” regarding a Honda CR-V, she sent Zelle payments totaling $2,400 for a downpayment and additional fees before the suspect stopped responding to emails.

  • Mail Interception and Check Alteration: A 65-year-old Solon man reported on February 25 that a property tax check he mailed on February 5 from the exterior box at the Solon Post Office was never received by the county. The check was intercepted and altered to a different recipient unknown to the victim, resulting in a current loss of $6,300. Detectives are investigating and have referred the case to U.S. Postal Inspectors.

  • Fraudulent Employment Scheme: A 51-year-old woman contacted police on March 1 after falling victim to a remote work scam involving a position supposedly with “NeighborWorks” for purchasing items for foster children. She deposited two fraudulent checks totaling $5,992 and was directed to send $900 back to the “organization.” Neither check cleared, and the bank required a police report to address her $500 loss.

Weapons Violations and Proactive Enforcement

Several Solon Police reports involve the seizure of firearms during routine traffic stops and park patrols.

  • Weapons Under Disability: At 2:00 am on February 26, an officer stopped a white Ford truck for traveling 85 MPH in a 60 MPH zone on US 422. The driver informed the officer he had a gun, and a check revealed he was ineligible to carry due to delinquency for a past criminal offense. A loaded semiautomatic pistol was seized, and a warrant for Weapons Under Disability (F3) was issued for the 22-year-old male from West Farmington.

  • Improper Handling of a Firearm: On February 28, an officer stopped a Chevy Malibu on SOM Center Road for a window tint violation and noted the odor of marijuana. During a search, officers found an unloaded semiautomatic handgun near the driver’s seat and a loaded magazine in the glove compartment. The 23-year-old driver from Bedford was arrested and charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm (M2), Marijuana Prohibition (MM), and a window tint violation.

Vandalism and Substance-Related Incidents

The community also saw incidents of property damage and arrests for physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated in recent Solon Police reports.

  • Criminal Damaging at Planet Fitness: On February 24, a woman reported that a person known to her entered the Planet Fitness on Aurora Road and began arguing with her. When the victim later exited the building, she discovered the mirrors on her SUV had been broken. A warrant for Criminal Damaging (M2) was issued for the 28-year-old suspect from Bedford.

  • Sauce Vandalism at Chick-Fil-A: A Door Dash driver reported on February 24 that while she was inside the restaurant on SOM Center Road, someone poured sauce on her car door handles. While the vehicle was not permanently damaged, the substance did not fully come off after a car wash. Officers are investigating.

  • Physical Control Arrest: Late on March 1, officers responded to the parking lot of Charley’s Cheesesteaks on Aurora Road for a report of a woman passed out in a white Dodge Durango. The 46-year-old woman from Sebring smelled of alcohol, failed field sobriety tests, and registered a .11% BAC on a breath test. She was charged with Physical Control (M1) after an open bottle of vodka was found in the car.

  • Drug Possession at Timberlake Park: On February 27, an officer discovered two males, ages 17 and 18, smoking marijuana in an SUV at Timberlake Park after hours. The 18-year-old was cited for Drug Possession (MM), and the 17-year-old’s case was referred to Juvenile Court.
