Summit County Launches Business Walks to Connect Local Companies with Resources

Initiative aims to bridge knowledge gap between small businesses and available funding

Summit County Department of Community and Economic Development launched its first Business Walk in Munroe Falls on June 26, visiting eight local businesses to understand their needs and connect them with available resources.

The program, led by Economic Development and Business Outreach Manager Caitlin Elrad and partnering with Munroe Falls Community and Economic Development Director Jenny Markovich, addresses a common problem: many small businesses are unaware of funding and resources available through Summit County and the State of Ohio.

“Whether these companies need more space due to booming business, or assistance attracting and retaining talented workers, opening up lines of communication is always the first step,” said County Executive Ilene Shapiro.

The visited businesses included Bell & Blaire LLC, MSB Machine, Tringia, Mulberry Gardens Memory Care, Signs 330, Lemongrass Grill Thai Restaurant and Bar, The Healing Cave, and Duck Duck Games. Each business represents different industries and faces unique challenges, from expanding operations to finding experienced workers and offering competitive wages.

Bell & Blaire LLC operates in commercial HVAC, project management and construction for 13 years. MSB Machine is a manufacturing business with one employee planning retirement after 31 years. Tringia has refurbished machines with a small staff for 21 years, while Mulberry Gardens Memory Care employs 64 people serving residents with memory care needs.

Signs 330 is experiencing growth and landing larger projects, having already connected with Ohio Means Jobs Center for hiring. Lemongrass Grill operates a thriving restaurant but needs a larger kitchen while remaining satisfied with their Munroe Falls location.

The Healing Cave, a woman-owned salt room and spa, started seven months ago and seeks continued growth as weekend business increases. Duck Duck Games has bought, sold and repaired video game consoles for three years, with busy holiday seasons.

Summit County plans to expand the Business Walk initiative to additional communities. Businesses interested in economic development opportunities can contact Caitlin Elrad at celrad@summitoh.net.
