The Medina City Council unanimously approved several key measures during its September 8 meeting, including accepting a $75,000 grant for the Municipal Court’s Veteran Treatment Court and authorizing the mayor to extend a parking agreement with Medina Supply.
Municipal Court Funding Council accepted a $75,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for the Veteran Treatment Court program. Municipal Court Administrator Cindy Latucca said the funding will support veterans going through the treatment program for another year.
Medina Supply Partnership Extended The city approved extending its parking agreement with Medina Supply for two more years. The original agreement from September 2023 allows public parking on the east side of South Broadway north of the railroad tracks. The new agreement also permits installation of a mural and creation of a pocket park with artistic features on the west side of the building adjacent to Broadway Street.
Infrastructure Updates City Engineer Patrick Patton announced that resurfacing work on West Liberty, South Elmwood and West Washington streets is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 9, weather permitting. The project involves one to two days of milling followed by one to two days of resurfacing after completion of new water line installation.
Community Concerns Councilwoman Regi Haire reported that Ward 3 and 4 community meetings revealed two primary resident concerns: deer damage to property and speeding in neighborhoods. She noted increased police presence has been observed in response to speeding complaints.
Haire said she received a white paper from Worthington, Ohio detailing their approach to deer management issues, which she plans to share with council members and administration.
Pool Season Success Parks and Recreation Director reported the Memorial Pool had a record attendance year, with revenues exceeding 2024 by over $10,000. The pool closed for the season on September 2.
Upcoming Events Mayor Dennis Hamlin announced several upcoming events:
- Farmers Market continues 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 4
- Medina Fall Festival on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- City equipment auction scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at the City Garage
Other Business Council also approved:
- Community Development Block Grant citizen participation plan
- Residential anti-displacement and relocation assistance plan
- Temporary easements for Prospect Street Bridge project
- Authorization to waive uncollectible utility accounts due to bankruptcy
- Medina County 2025 All-Hazard and Flood Mitigation Plan
