Beloved Eateries Find New Life in Parma’s Dining Scene

Historic Hot Dog Diner Reopens While Ohio Pie Co. Expands Footprint

After shutting its doors in February, the beloved Hot Dog Diner & Burger Co. has returned to Parma, reopening at its original 5494 Pearl Road location on April 23. The restaurant, housed in a former Taco Bell building, continues to operate with both dining room service and drive-thru options Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The reopening comes under new ownership led by majority owner Bob Berry, a relative of founders Dave and Natalie Teare who originally opened the restaurant in 2005. While new management considered other locations, they ultimately decided to maintain the restaurant’s historic presence at its established Pearl Road address.

Dave Teare, who stepped away from the business due to his wife’s health concerns, has returned in an advisory role to help maintain the restaurant’s legacy. The new owners aim to preserve the restaurant’s traditional menu and preparation methods that have made it a Parma staple for nearly 20 years.

Meanwhile, Ohio Pie Co. has announced plans to establish a new location in Parma, adding to its existing restaurants in Brunswick and Rocky River. The pizzeria, which opened its first location in 2019, has gained popularity for its unique “Ohio-style” pizza featuring a medium-thick buttery crust with edge-to-edge toppings, sweet sauce spiral, and square-cut pieces.

Besides their signature pizza style, Ohio Pie Co. also offers brunch pies on weekends with breakfast toppings like scrambled eggs and bacon on an “everything bagel” crust with cream cheese white sauce, along with freshly baked cookies that have become customer favorites.

The reopening of Hot Dog Diner and the upcoming Ohio Pie Co. location represent continued investment in Parma’s restaurant scene, maintaining beloved local institutions while adding new dining options for residents.
