MENTOR, Ohio – The first Mentor Planning Commission meeting of 2026 covered officer appointments, reviewed plans for a fitness center expansion, and approved a site plan revision for the Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch. The Mentor Planning Commission meeting also included a discussion on a potential cryotherapy business entering the city.
Officer Elections
At the start of the meeting, members unanimously reappointed the existing leadership team. Chris Calhoun will continue serving as chair, and Marco Chigarelli will remain vice chair for 2026.
Fitness Center Seeks Expansion
Business owner Scott Panchik presented a conditional use request linked to the planned relocation and expansion of his Mentor fitness gym. The move would allow for additional space, updated amenities, and better accommodation of growing membership demand. The commission approved the request.
Subdivision Approval
The commission approved a request from the owner of two adjacent residential parcels. The approval allows the lots to be legally combined and split differently to support future development.
Library Site Plan Revision
A representative of the Mentor Public Library requested a site plan modification at the Mentor Avenue Main Branch. The revision includes an updated building footprint and a reframed structure, adjustments needed as part of an ongoing improvement project. The commission approved the revision.
New Cryotherapy Business Inquiry
The owner of a potential new Mentor cryotherapy business attended the meeting to gather information. While no formal action was requested, members encouraged the entrepreneur to submit the necessary documents to begin the approval process.
