Gates Mills Police Handle Package Retrieval, Medical Call, Identity Theft

Package Protection Sept. 28

A Chartley Road resident who was out of town was monitoring her home through her Ring camera when she observed a package had been delivered near her front steps. Concerned about the package remaining outside while she was away, she contacted police and requested an officer retrieve it for safekeeping. An officer responded to the residence, collected the package, and transported it to the police station where it was secured until the resident’s return.

Employment Concern Sept. 30

The manager of a landscape company contacted Gates Mills Police requesting special attention at an Andrews Lane residence. The company was in the process of terminating a longstanding employee and wanted police presence or awareness during the action. Officers provided information and assistance to ensure the situation remained peaceful.

Medical Emergency Sept. 30

Officers responded to a medical pendant activation at a Riverview Road residence. Upon arrival, officers found the male resident in need of medical attention. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported the man to the hospital as a precautionary measure to ensure he received proper medical evaluation.

Property Check Oct. 1

A County Line Road resident who was out of town contacted police after reviewing footage from his remote camera system. He reported observing two males walking on his property. Officers responded and thoroughly checked the property but did not observe anyone on the premises. The resident was advised of the findings. Police noted the individuals may have been landscapers working at a neighboring property.

Identity Theft Oct. 2

A County Line Road resident discovered that 20,000 airline mile points had gone missing from her account. She contacted police to report the theft. Officers took a detailed report of the incident for documentation and investigation purposes.

School Mix-Up Oct. 2

At approximately 1 p.m., an alarm was triggered at the Gates Mills Education Center on County Line Road. A responding officer arrived to investigate and found a juvenile student standing outside the building. The student explained that he had used his personal access code to enter the building to use the restroom. The juvenile was a Willoughby-Eastlake Schools student who regularly attends classes at the facility and had been dropped off by the Willoughby-Eastlake school bus that morning. However, he realized after arriving that Mayfield Schools were closed for the day, meaning the building was not in use. The student called his mother to pick him up from the location. School officials from both districts were notified about the miscommunication regarding the school schedule.
